European Association of Health Law Conference 2011

Nola Ries presented a paper at the 2011 European Association of Health Law Conference, which took place in Leuven, Belgium in October. Ries's paper, End of Life Decision Making: Recent Legal Developments in Canada, discussed the current state of Canadian law in two areas relevant to end-of-life decision-making: withdrawal of life-sustaining treatment; and physician-assisted suicide. The conference provided an opportunity to share experiences from the Canadian context and discuss similarities and differences with European law.

In-depth analysis of obesity & the law in Canada

Nola Ries and colleague Barbara von Tigerstrom of the University of Saskatchewan have published a detailed analysis of laws to promote healthy eating and physical activity. The paper, Legal Interventions to Address Obesity: Assessing the State of the Law in Canada, appears in the University of British Columbia Law Review, volume 43:2, 2011.
